Annual Luncheon of Hope Announces Keynote Speaker
Linda Ockwell-Jenner Luncheon of Hope

Linda Ockwell-Jenner will be this year’s Luncheon of Hope speaker. She is a three-time cancer survivor and believes that while everyone will not survive the disease she has put herself out there to give everyone hope. “…we have to give life our best shot, and if we are blessed and survive any serious health challenge, I believe we should live every day to the fullest.”

The Northern Cancer Foundation and the 2018 Luncheon of Hope organizing committee are pleased to announce this year’s Vale-sponsored keynote speaker is Linda Ockwell-Jenner.

Known as ‘The Social Sweetheart’, Linda Ockwell-Jenner is a three-time cancer survivor, TV host, author, professional speaker, award winning entrepreneur and Co-Founder of the Small Business Community Network (SBCN). She will bring a message of hope, and focus on her own experiences with breast cancer and overcoming life’s challenges.

“Breast cancer has impacted us all in some way. Our Luncheon provides a forum for exploring the effects of breast cancer. Importantly, it gives our community the opportunity to partner with us in Investing in Hope,” says Meri-Lynn Butler, Chair of the Luncheon of Hope Committee.

“We are extremely proud of this event and excited to be celebrating the Luncheon’s 20 year anniversary. This milestone shows the dedication and hard work which has been led by a long list of strong community champions,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the Northern Cancer Foundation.

This year’s event will raise funds towards the purchase of the Incucyte S3 Live Cell Analysis system. With IncuCyte S3 live-cell analysis, cells are measured continuously so new insights into biological processes and changes can be done via real-time. With greater understanding of cell activity researchers can run multiple tests and devise new experiments that will lead to better insight and treatment for breast cancer.

To date, the Luncheon of Hope has raised over $845,000. With these funds, important breast-cancer research equipment has been purchased such as the Histochemistry Embedder that is being used by our very own Dr. Lee and Dr. Parissenti’s tumour biology groups.

The 20th annual Luncheon of Hope will take place on September 28, 2018 at noon at the Caruso Club. Tickets can be purchased for $60 each (includes a $30 charitable receipt) or corporate tables of 10 are available for $600 (includes a $300 charitable receipt).
