Sudbury Gardening Festival This Saturday

Sdbury Gardening Festival

The Sudbury Gardening Festival takes place Saturday, May 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the YMCA Centre for Life.

The Sudbury Horticultural Society invites all gardeners in Northeastern Ontario to join in a celebration of gardening at the Sudbury Gardening Festival on Saturday May 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the YMCA Centre for Life and Parkside Centre. Don’t miss this opportunity to purchase your plants, supplies and services for the gardening season, listen to gardening speakers, and learn about the many important environmental initiatives taking place in Greater Sudbury.  You’ll also want to visit the juried horticultural show where members of the Horticultural Society showcase their gardening talents.  Admission is FREE!

Pick up a free shrub and tree seedling  provided by Greater Sudbury’s Regreening Committee (VETAC) in the Regreening Sudbury room, and a free sample of compost provided by Greater Sudbury Environmental Initiatives in front of the YMCA building.  Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer free gardening advice and a free tetanus clinic will be provided by Public Health Sudbury and Districts.  You’ll also want to borrow gardening resources from Greater Sudbury Public Library, or purchase an inexpensive and almost-new gardening book from the extensive collection available at the Horticultural Society booth.

Meals, desserts and refreshments will be available for purchase at the YMCA’s Harmony Cafe throughout day and an outdoor barbecue will be offered for lunch.

More information about the event can be found at www.sudburygardeningfestival.ca and www.facebook.com/sudburygardeningfestival.

We encourage you to spend the day downtown and also visit the Downtown Sudbury Yard and Sidewalk Sale, Church of the Ephiphany’s Spring Rummage Sale, and the many cafes and businesses located in close proximity to the Festival.

In March 1956, Sudbury Aviation Limited inaugurated its flying school on Whitewater Lake in Azilda. At the time, it was the only school authorized by the government to train pilots in Northern Ontario.
