Help Plant Trees at Kivi Park Tomorrow
Kivi Park Vale Plant a Tree

If you have some time on Saturday come lend a hand and plant trees at Kivi Park.

Instead of the rainy day that’s been forecasted, Environment Canada is now calling for sun and only a small chance or rain for Saturday, May 13th which is good news for everyone who is coming out to help Kivi Park plant 10,000 trees!

The trees were donated by Vale and everyone is welcome to come help! So bring some sturdy shoes or boots, a water bottle, a shovel and lots of energy. Don’t forget your sunscreen. Kivi Park is asking that volunteers come out at 9 a.m..

Scouts Canada, Girl Guides of Canada, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Forests Ontario and many other groups will be helping to continue the remarkable regreening of the City of Greater Sudbury! There will be a BBQ lunch, Music, Fire Trucks, Face Painting, Bouncy Castles, and activities after for the kids. Volunteers needed. This event is proudly sponsored by Kivi Park, Pioneer Construction Inc., Fisher Wavy Inc. and CAA North & East Ontario Sudbury.

So what will 10,000 trees do once they are grown?

  • They will provide a day’s supply of oxygen for 40,000 people.
  • They will  store 130,000 pounds of carbon each year.
  • They will remove the amount of carbon dioxide about 1,500 cars produce each driving the average 16,000 km a year.

And they’ll provide a great ecosystem for birds and other animals, they’ll help filter water before it enters the lakes and streams and we’ll enjoy the shade in the summer and protection from the wind in the winter as we hike, bike, ski and snowshoe through Kivi Park.
