Sudbury Wolves Announce December Player of the Month Award Winners

The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce the November Players of the Month award winners.

The Sudbury Wolves Community Player of the Month

Sudbury Wolves forward Ryan Valentini has been named the Community Player of the Month for his contribution to the City of Greater Sudbury during the month of December. Valentini is having a tremendous season on the ice, ranked second in team scoring with 29 points in 37 games, already surpassing last year’s totals. The Mississauga native is a great community leader for the Wolves and has participated in a number of community events, including school visits, assisting with the Sudbury Wolves Christmas Break Hockey Camp and participating in the Skate with the Wolves. The Sudbury Wolves would like to acknowledge Ryan for his hard work on and off the ice in the first half of the season.

Molson Canadian 3-Star Award

Russian forward Dmitry Sokolov has been awarded the Molson Canadian 3-Star Award. Dmitry was named the 1st star of the game once and third star once in December. He was awarded the 1st star of the game in the final game of 2016 in Barrie where he scored two goals in a 3-1 victory over the Colts. He was the third star of the game in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on December 14th. Dmitry currently leads the Wolves offensively with 34 points in 33 games and sits fifth in the league in goals scored with 24. The Minnesota Wild prospect was also the November Molson Canadian 3-Star Award winner. The Sudbury Wolves would like to congratulate Dmitry for his outstanding play during the first half of the season.

Sudbury Wolves Hardest Working Forward

The Sudbury Wolves Hardest Working Forward for the month of December is rookie Shane Bultika. The Ilderton native has scored 4 goals and added 6 assists for 10 points in 32 games. He has come on strong as of late collecting 4 of those points in the last three games. The 17-year-old forward has a very strong work ethic and has been continuously improving as the season progresses. He was selected by the Wolves in the second round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. The Wolves would like to congratulate Shane on his strong start this season.

Sudbury Wolves Hardest Working Defensemen

Reagan O’Grady has been selected as the Hardest Working Defensemen for the month of December. The Lindsay, Ontario native is currently in his fourth season with the Sudbury Wolves and is a great leader for this team on and off the ice. Reagan remains a +1 in the plus/minus category and has notched 9 points through 35 games. O’Grady is eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft this summer. The Wolves organization would like to congratulate Reagan for his determination in the first half of the season.

Reg Wilkinson’s Men’s Wear Scholastic Player of the Month

Wolves’ first year forward Owen Gilhula  has been selected to receive the Reg Wilkinson’s Men’s Wear Scholastic Player of the Month award for December. Owen is enrolled in Law, English and Biology at Lasalle Secondary School where he is achieving a 79% average. The Stratford, Ontario native was selected by the Wolves in the 2nd round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. Gilhula recently scored his first two OHL goals just prior to the Christmas break. The Wolves would like to commend Owen for his hard work and dedication to both hockey and his academics.

Skater’s Edge Player of the Month

Sophomore David Levin has been named the Skater’s Edge Player of the Month for the month of December. Levin had an outstanding month in December to help him climb the scoring chart. In 10 games in the month of December, Levin scored 11 points to rank third in team scoring. At the half way mark of the season, David currently sits just 3 points behind his point totals from last season. The Sudbury Wolves congratulate David for his on-ice contributions during the month of December.

The Sudbury Wolves will begin presentations next Wednesday, January 11th when they host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at 7:00p.m. for Game 3 of the Bell Challenge Cup.
