Greater Sudbury Schools by Numbers

Sudbury’s first school opened in 1884. Miss Maggie Smith from Ottawa became Sudbury’s first school teacher. She taught classes in the rectory of St. Anne’s Church in downtown Sudbury. Every month the parish priest, Father Nolin, would go to the homes of his parishioners to collect $2 for each student to pay for the teacher and for school supplies.
